NZ Funds Management is a privately owned wealth management firm. We specialise in providing integrated advice and portfolio management services to New Zealanders.
Our history
NZ Funds Management was founded in 1988. It was originally formed as a joint venture between LD Nathan & Co and ipac, a leading Australian investment advisory firm.
Over time the current executive shareholders have progressively acquired the stakes of the two original joint venture partners. LD Nathan & Co's stake was acquired in 1992, with ipac's stake subsequently acquired in 2000.
NZ Funds Management is now wholly owned by its senior management. Many of our shareholders, whom we refer to as Principals, have been with the firm for more than a decade and bring significant breadth, tenure and experience to their roles.
Our business
Our business is based on a spirit of partnership between clients, their financial adviser and NZ Funds Management. Our objective is for clients to have the capital they need, when they need it, to fund their lifestyle and retirement objectives.
Our clients are New Zealanders. We work with those in the process of accumulating wealth, those seeking reliable retirement income and those with broader, multi-generational wealth management needs.
We work with a select group of financial advisers across the country and we strongly believe in the value that high quality financial advice can deliver.
Our point of difference
We believe that both advice and investment management, like other knowledge based businesses that are changing society today, are driven by innovation. It is human capital, rather than financial capital, that creates innovation.
On average our Principals have been at NZ Funds Management for over 15 years. A number of them for more than two decades. This should give our clients confidence, both in the depth of our experience in good and bad economic environments, and our commitment to taking responsibility for our investment decisions over the long term.
As an organisation wholly owned by its senior management, NZ Funds Management has developed a culture that enables us to attract, motivate and retain outstanding people. We believe that the tenure of our senior people is unmatched in our industry in New Zealand. It is this human capital which provides the constant innovation that drives our firm.
Among our team we have four CFA (Certified Financial Analyst) charter holders and a further three who are studying towards this qualification. The CFA qualification is a mark of distinction that is globally recognised by investment professionals, employers and investors as the definitive standard by which to measure investment professionals.
We also have a further 22 Authorised Financial Advisers or AFAs within the wider NZ Funds Management group. Individuals who have achieved this designation make a commitment to a high standard of competence, knowledge and skill, ethical behaviour and client care in their capacity as financial advisers, along with an ongoing commitment to education and training.
