NZ Funds Management originated out of Lion Nathan and for many years our largest client was the Lion Nathan staff pension scheme. We grew up as a manager of institutional capital.

Today, as a large, privately owned New Zealand institutional investor we have objectives, investing perspectives and risk considerations that intersect with those of many of our institutional clients. Put simply, we think similarly.

We manage assets across all of the main asset classes, both domestically and internationally, and can therefore offer the full suite of portfolio options to New Zealand institutions. In effect we can enable them to “co-invest” alongside us and benefit from the research, resources and scale we can bring to bear on their behalf.

Unlike most other New Zealand investment managers we do not confine ourselves to a traditional, benchmark driven approach to investment. We believe that, for institutions just as for individual investors, the journey matters and we seek to manage risk at every juncture in the investment processes we employ.

We seek absolute, as opposed to relative performance outcomes, and we believe that an unyielding focus on the avoidance of irrecoverable losses is the surest path to that aim.

We provide an in-depth level of research insight and access to our team for institutional clients who invest alongside us. To read some examples of our investment process research see our research section.
