Biography
Bee joined NZ Funds in 1993 and she is responsible for all financial and compliance aspects of the corporate entities and portfolios. With her engineering background, Bee is also responsible for infrastructure aspects including office management, leasing and renovations.

Prior to 1993, Bee was an Audit Manager at Ernst & Young for 7 years where NZ Funds was her first client in 1988. 

Approach
My exposure to this industry over 20 years has allowed me to grow and add value to the portfolios in, for example, the design of the new investment offering platform and reducing and controlling cost aspects of the portfolios.

Seven years of disciplined audit experience allows me to ensure that our Investment team adds optimal value to the investors’ portfolios without compromising the risk positions on the investors or NZ Funds.

My accounting experience over the years helped both the portfolios and corporate entities to transit smoothly to the new International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) regime in 2008. Moving forward, my approach to the continual updates and changes in this area affecting the complex valuation issues of certain securities is to take a pragmatic, commonsense approach within the IFRS rules.

As chairperson of PSF, my key role is to uplift and maintain the performance of the ‘back office’ in order to support the ‘front office’ in delivering its objectives to the investors. The approach taken is to deal with operational issues in a proactive manner by asking ‘what can go wrong’ first and planning in advance on any foreseeable operational issues.

Basically, the key approach I take in making any decision be it a financial, operational, accounting or compliance issue, is ‘what is the best option from the investors’ perspective?’
