Biography
Mike joined NZ Funds in 2002 after spending 12 years in private practice in New Zealand and Ireland. He leads the NZ Funds Legal and Tax Team and has responsibility for ensuring that NZ Funds meets all of its legal and tax obligations.

Approach
Leading a Legal and Tax team in a fund management company may not sound like the most exciting role since managing offering documentation and filing tax returns would not excite many people.

However within NZ Funds my role and that of my team is anything but dull.

Being a relatively small organisation compared to our competitors, NZ Funds has a greater ability to be innovative and to respond quickly to change.   As a result, we often take a different approach to that of our competitors.  This flexible approach requires a legal and tax platform that is able to adapt to change while at the same time ensuring that we continue to meet our statutory obligations.

Combine this with the need to be able to explain legal and tax concepts to colleagues and advisors in terms that they understand, liaising with Officials on matters of legislative policy development, and a supportive work environment, and you have a role that is both challenging and enjoyable.
