Biography
I joined NZ Funds in 1993 and have worked in a number of areas across the firm since that time, principally in serving our clients and developing the relationships we treasure with financial advisers across New Zealand.

Our firm and I have both grown tremendously over the intervening years, sometimes in a linear fashion, sometimes not. But we are still together, we are still striving to be the very best we can and we are still stimulated by each other’s company.

I proudly consider myself more of a practitioner than an academic, but I do hold a postgraduate Diploma in Finance from Auckland University.

Approach
Our clients are New Zealanders. We manage their life savings. This includes the life savings of my family and a number of others that I know and love. We manage money for accountants, teachers, lawyers, farmers, doctors, architects, mechanics, retired folk and those preparing for retirement. And everyone in between. All 15,000 of them.

Some have made their money themselves, some have inherited it. Each has different attitudes toward their money. But they are all human and the instincts of aspiration and anxiety afflict them all, to varying degrees and at different times. One’s wealth is a deeply personal thing, second perhaps only to one’s health.

It is an enormous responsibility, and one that I take with pride. We work terrifically hard to produce consistently positive investment outcomes for all of our clients but, just like in many other fields, the markets have a tendency to humble even the most determined of endeavour from time to time.

The humility to understand that investment is probabilistic, not certain, is a critical factor in achieving long term success as an investor. Our goal is to apply our collective experience along with rigorous discipline to the management of your money to try and stack the odds in your favour.

We believe that the surest path to achieving that goal is to accumulate a diverse and talented group of people, bind them together on a united course and ensure we challenge each other to learn a little more every day.
