FAQs

Is there a minimum investment?

There is no minimum investment required to open an account and no minimum contribution amount.

Is there a lock-in period?

Wealth Builder is not locked in. You can withdraw all or part of your investment in a Strategy at any time by completing a withdrawal request online through the NZ Funds Digital Wallet.

Does it cost to withdraw funds?

NZ Funds does not charge withdrawal, switch or transfer fees.

How long until I can access my funds?

We normally pay withdrawals within four business days of the date the withdrawal request is accepted.

What types of things is Wealth Builder invested in?

NZ Funds Wealth Builder offers four investment options: three actively managed funds (also referred to as Strategies) and a life cycle investment option (Life Cycle).

The available asset classes that the Strategies may invest in are listed below. The Strategies can purchase the assets either directly, or indirectly through derivatives. Not all Strategies can invest in all asset classes. The asset classes are:

  • Cash and cash equivalents
  • New Zealand fixed interest
  • International fixed interest
  • Australasian equities
  • International equities
  • Listed property
  • Commodities
  • Alternative securities

The above asset classes are from the Financial Markets Conduct Regulations 2014 (Regulations), except for 'alternative securities' which falls under 'Other' in the Regulations. These are the same asset classes used in the quarterly fund updates.

How do I contribute?

You can invest by completing an online application form available through your financial advice provider or our website at www.nzfunds.co.nz. Alternatively, you can call us on 0800 377 2277 or email [email protected].

An investment can be made by lump sum or regular contributions through your internet banking. You can choose to make regular contributions on a weekly, fortnightly, monthly or quarterly basis.

What are the fees?

You will be charged fees for investing in the Strategies. Fees are deducted from your investment and will reduce your returns. If NZ Funds invests in other funds, those funds may also charge fees. The fees you pay will be charged in two ways:

  • Regular charges (for example, annual fund charges). Small differences in these fees can have a big impact on your investment over the long term.
  • One-off fees. NZ Funds does not charge any establishment, contribution, termination, withdrawal, switch or transfer fees.

For more information on fees and charges, refer to the Other Material Information document by clicking here.

How do I make a withdrawal?

You can withdraw all or part of your investment in a Strategy at any time by completing a withdrawal request online through the NZ Funds Digital Wallet.

You can choose to make regular withdrawals of a set amount on a fortnightly, monthly or quarterly basis. You can set up regular withdrawals by completing a single withdrawal request.

Can I share this account with someone?

A Wealth Builder application can be completed as a joint account.

What is the minimum age requirement?

To open an account, investors must be aged 16 or older, provided they able to meet all AML requirements.

What is the difference between Wealth Builder and KiwiSaver?

KiwiSaver and Wealth Builder are similar. In fact, Wealth Builder is based on our KiwiSaver Scheme but without KiwiSaver rules. This means that, unlike KiwiSaver which you can’t access until you turn 65, Wealth Builder is not locked in. You can top up your savings rate with Wealth Builder and choose when you want to retire or access your money for another reason.

Please note – while estimated annual fund charges are the same, actual fund charges may differ due to differences in performance fees, service charges and fee rebates.

Can I only invest into Growth?

Different investors have different needs. Our Self Select option lets you customise your investment in the Strategies to meet your financial goals by giving you the ability to choose which of the Income, Inflation or Growth Strategies (or any combination of them) best suits your needs. Your financial advice provider can help you make this choice.
